Šibenik

Šibenik is one of the oldest native Croatian cities on the Adriatic, set where the Krka River meets the sea and defined by its dense stone old town, fortresses, and layered medieval heritage. Its most important landmark is the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St James, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture built entirely from stone without mortar, reflecting the city’s historical significance during Venetian rule. Šibenik is also known for its network of hilltop fortresses such as St. Michael’s Fortress, which offer sweeping views over the coastline and islands. Today, it serves as a gateway to natural attractions including the waterfalls of Krka National Park and the island-dense Kornati National Park, blending cultural depth with easy access to some of Croatia’s most striking coastal landscapes.
