Orebić

Orebić is a seaside town situated on the southern coast of the Pelješac Peninsula in southern Croatia, directly facing the island of Korčula across a narrow channel. It lies in a scenic setting beneath the slopes of Mount St. Elijah (Sveti Ilija), which rises steeply behind the town and offers hiking routes with panoramic views over the Adriatic Sea and surrounding islands.

Historically, Orebić was an important maritime center, known for its captains and sailors who played a significant role in Adriatic shipping during the 19th century. This heritage is still visible in the town’s historic captain’s houses and the Maritime Museum.

Today, Orebić is a popular tourist destination, especially as a gateway to Korčula via frequent ferry connections. It offers long pebble beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a relaxed coastal atmosphere compared to nearby more crowded destinations. The surrounding Pelješac Peninsula is also known for its vineyards and wine production, adding a gastronomic dimension to the area.

With its combination of mountain scenery, maritime history, and access to nearby islands, Orebić serves as both a destination in its own right and an ideal base for exploring southern Dalmatia.
